Booking Cut Off: 08/10/2021 at 11pm

Schedule: Arrive at 9am, ready to shuttle/paddle by 9:30am.

Type: Touring Trip

Distance: 9miles (approx. 2-4 hours on the water) (view the paddle trail)

Start Location: Newbury Wharf car park, on the south side of the river, just upstream from the A339 road bridge, the post code is RG14 5AS and GR – SU 472671. The car part is a pay and display car park next to the library unless you manage to get a space next to the public toilets where the parking is free. The car park has public toilets, plenty of refreshment places, and the Granary building here is now home to a museum, and the ‘Stone Building’ is used by the Kennet and Avon Canal Trust.

Finish Location: Aldermaston Wharf, the post code is RG7 4JS and GR – SU 600671. The car park behind the basin area, with public toilets. There might be space on the road side but do watch for the larger car park as the height restriction is often across. There is also a pay and display car park near the canal shop just the other side of the road past the lock cottages and has no height restriction. Aldermaston Wharf is on the A4, and easy to reach from either Newbury to the west, (9 miles) or the M4, Junction 12, to the east (4 miles)

Suitability: Confident on Flat Water (whilst not essential we highly recommend having attended a canal session before)

Description: The Kennet & Avon Canal meanders through the market town of Newbury, with a pretty waterside path running alongside it, and plenty of boat moorings. At Newbury Wharf, you can see many buildings linked to the canal’s history. The canal passes through the leafy Victoria Park, with the traditional English attractions of a boating lake, bandstand and bowls club.

Food: Please arrange your own food for the day and plenty of drinks, and ideally a sealed tub and dry bag to transport your lunches in.

Kit/Equipment Hire: Equipment is always available for use at official club activities however there is no equipment stored onsite for these events, so if you require to equipment please complete a hire request. We highly recommend where possible that you are able to transport your own kit, however understand not everyone has a van or roof rack especially those new to the sport, if this is the case ensure you fill in your request soon as possible. Equipment should be collected at the Wednesday Mixed/Open (pool, lido, canal) Session before the event and returned the following Wednesday after. You can read more about our equipment, hire and usage here.
