We’re looking at a new edition for the sit-on-tops within the club. Tootega is our chosen manufacturer & our eyes are on the new Pulse 125, which hasn’t hit the shelves as yet, but it looks ace. Check out some of the graphics, below.

As you may or may not know, the Lee Valley White Water Centre closes its doors to all access by the general public, as of the last session on Sunday 16th October 2011. This is for the Olympic authorities to move in essential equipment for next summer’s Olympics.
The good news is that over this winter, from the 12th November, the centre will be open for canoes and kayaks but on a limited basis, with no rafts on the course. These are;
· Usage of Legacy course – Friday’s 17:00 to 19:00, and Saturdays 10:00 to 13:00. Assessment slots will be 11:00 and 12:00 on Saturdays only.
· Usage of Olympic course – Saturday’s 12:00 to 14:00.
This programme will continue until March, no date available at time of writing, as it is liable to change. The normal booking process will be in operation, please see LVWWC website for details. (This has not yet been updated with the revised opening times at the time of writing)
The centre will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period and then re-open again on the 5th January 2012, when the rafting operations will commence again. Canoeing and kayaking usage will remain as pre-Christmas period.

The Legacy course has been booked for an hour slot, between 9 and 10am, on the 2nd of October. For those that have been expressing your interest, it’s now the time to signing up & pay for your place.
To book your place on the course, you need to email secretary@bvcc.org.uk & pay (£15) the club for your session. Until you’ve paid, your place is not secure. For those that cannot make a wednesday, you can do it over the net. When you book your place with us, just ask.
It’s advisable to get there early, to get changed and be on the lake, ready to hit the conveyor belt at 9am, when it should be turned on. Otherwise, you’ll be loosing out your time on the course.
It’s a good training background & it’s a great way to start of your whitewater season in paddling. You’d be able to start on the bottom of the course, where it will be easier to get to grips with moving water and the techniques we use to move about on the river & then progress up the course. They’ll also be a small safety team on the course from the club, so if you need some assistance, they’ll be there to help.
For those that haven’t had any or much whitewater experience, we’ll split people into groups, for some coaching & leading on the course. They’ll go through the basics and will work their way up, depending on the group ability on the day.

What happens next?
Before you ask, it is Richard!

Come and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of BVCC on Saturday 15th October!
We will be paddling on the Basingstoke Canal during the day followed by an evening BBQ at Mytchett Canal Centre (details to come).
You will need to provide your own food and drink. Any offers of BBQ’s would be much appreciated – please let me know so that I can ensure we have sufficient on the day.
Hope to see you all there for some ‘Canal Capers’ and ‘Brilliant Barbecuing’!
